Cricket
Following British culture we so proudly represent, we could not leave out this traditionally English sport! This is a special kind of sport because it involves both body and mind. In terms of physical benefits, playing this sport regularly will improve the mobility of the children’s joints and muscles as well as posture. On the other hand, for every action and every test of stamina you face, there is a corresponding cognitive function keeping your mind sharp, making it an ideal sport for students to start at an early age.
Football
How could we not possibly include this most famous and popular sport world-wide? It is essential to a British school as let’s not forget that its popularity emerged in English public schools during the 19th century. It is important not only because it is great exercise for the students but also because it cultivates team work and team spirit. It teaches how important cooperation is in order to achieve success.
Volleyball
This is a high paced sport meaning there is no such moment of boredom, it requires a lot of energy and revolves around teamwork which is what makes it the most fun. A game like this is familiar to all of us, I am sure we all have memories of playing with helium-filled balloons and tossing them around to your friends when you were little, this is what makes this game unique in it’s own way.
Badminton
Shyam School of Education India provides Badminton within an indoor recreational area in the Boarding complex, where students can play multiple games and activities, amongst them being badminton. A great low intensity sport to do after school, it can be played individually or in teams of two, making it an opportunity to socialize and unwind after a long day of classes. Badminton is played all year round and can be chosen either as a full time sporting activity or recreationally. It is also a great indoor activity to do on rainy days or in the harsh winter season.
Tennis
For those students who prefer to play in smaller groups, tennis is the perfect fit! Tennis is a sport where you are constantly moving, changing direction and stretching your body. By playing tennis on a regular basis, you will also notice an improvement in agility and flexibility. What’s more, unlike most sports, tennis can be played at any age which makes it a lifelong sport.
Table Tennis
Originating in Victorian England as a parlour game amongst the English elite, Table tennis, or Ping-pong, has emerged today as a popular sport globally. Shyam School of Education has three Table tennis tables equipped to provide the students recreational as well as competitive activity. The sport is encouraged to introduce quick-thinking and agility as it is a sport that requires focus and quick reflexes to play the game.
Basketball
Following the lines of football, we could not possibly leave this very popular sport out of our list. A great social sport, no matter how tough the competition is, your team would be your number 1 source of strength giving way, once again, to a strong team spirit and connection amongst each team member. Basketball offers great health benefits such as improvement in cardiovascular health, muscle development, higher self-discipline and concentration.
Meditation
Although not a physical activity, it certainly exercises the mind. At the end of the day, students’ heads are buzzing after all the activities they have done, therefore, it is important to find a moment of peace and connect with oneself. Meditation is a great way to achieve this, it allows students to reduce stress (especially when exam season approaches), enhances self-awareness in a world where we struggle to live in the present and contributes to an overall emotional well-being, something that we at Shyam’s give a lot of importance to. We have a few certified yoga and meditation teachers on campus, therefore, your children are left in good hands. What’s more, is this not the best place to start such exercises? In India, the land where yoga and meditation was born and is still so tightly ingrained in its culture.
